Paper & materials

Every product page lists what an item is made of. This page explains those materials in plain terms. We only state figures — such as paper weight or pad size — that we have for a product.

Paper, 80–100 gsm

Used in: ledgers, notebooks, planners and pads. The gsm figure is the paper's weight in grams per square metre. 80 gsm is a light everyday paper; 90 and 100 gsm are heavier and show less of the writing on the reverse. How a pen behaves also depends on the ink and nib, so we do not promise that any paper is free of show-through.

Care: keep books dry and out of strong sunlight.

Book cloth

Used in: cloth-covered hardcovers. A woven fabric laminated to paper and wrapped over board. Book cloth scuffs less than a plain paper cover but can mark with water or grease.

Care: brush off dust; wipe gently with a barely damp cloth if needed.

Kraft card

Used in: folders, presentation folders and ring binders. A strong unbleached card in its natural brown colour. The shade can vary slightly from batch to batch.

Care: keep dry; kraft card can mark if it gets wet.

Polypropylene (PP)

Used in: zip wallets, display books, expanding files, box files and storage boxes. A light, translucent plastic that is resistant to moisture.

Care: wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep away from heat.

Bamboo

Used in: pen pots, letter trays, organisers and the desk shelf. A hard, light-coloured material with a visible grain; the grain and shade vary between pieces.

Care: dust with a dry cloth. Do not soak or leave standing water on it.

Steel mesh

Used in: mesh pen pots, letter trays and magazine files. Powder-coated steel mesh on a solid base.

Care: wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. If the coating is chipped, keep the item dry.

Felt

Used in: felt desk pads, mouse mats and coasters. A dense non-woven textile that softens the desk surface.

Care: brush or lint-roll; spot clean with a slightly damp cloth. Do not machine wash.

Polyurethane (PU)

Used in: PU desk pads. A synthetic leather-look material with a smooth surface. It is not real leather.

Care: wipe with a damp cloth. Keep away from heat and sharp edges.

Cork

Used in: cork desk mats. A light, natural material with a slightly textured surface; the pattern varies between mats.

Care: wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Corrugated board

Used in: archive boxes and magazine files. Layers of card with a fluted core, delivered flat and folded into shape.

Care: keep dry and do not over-fill.
